One million trees. One island.
A reforestation and carbon offset program by ADPS, restoring native forest across Mauritius, one site at a time, starting at Le Morne.
About ADPS →A structured answer to a growing pressure
Mauritius faces real environmental pressure from urbanisation, transport, waste and tourism. At the same time, more people, businesses and institutions want to take genuine climate action. This program turns that willingness into something real: a transparent, well managed way to restore forest cover across the island.
Restore native forest and ecological balance across Mauritius
Offer an accessible way to offset carbon, for individuals and organisations
Help companies and tourism partners show real environmental commitment
Track and report impact with clear, honest numbers
One programme, three kinds of expertise
The program is led by Africa Development Program Services, working alongside The Green Village and Via Terra. Together, programme management, ecological knowledge and on the ground delivery meet in one place.
ADPS
Programme management, stakeholder coordination and transparent impact reporting.
The Green Village
Ecological expertise, native species knowledge and long term land stewardship.
Via Terra
Land access and on the ground delivery capacity for planting sites.
Le Morne, Green Village
The first site under this program sits at The Green Village, Le Morne, in the shadow of Le Morne Brabant. It is where the first trees go into the ground, chosen and cared for by people who know this land well.
A regenerative chapter, planted with intention
When you sponsor a tree through this programme, you support a new regenerative chapter for a greener planet, taking root at The Green Village, an ecological park at Coteau Raffin, Rivière Noire, on Mauritius’s west coast, within the buffer zone of the Le Morne Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage property.
Bringing degraded land back to life
The vision is to bring a stretch of degraded land back to life, while strengthening ties between people and nature through permaculture programmes and organic food.
Planting in guilds, not rows
Permaculture works with the land, using its natural patterns and processes. Rather than a single species planted in isolated rows, plants are grouped so they support one another: one tree or shrub anchors the planting, and the species around it each perform a job, building soil, drawing in pollinators, or keeping pests in check. This kind of mutually supportive grouping is often called a guild, a foundational idea within permaculture, applied to build resilience, growth and abundance through harmonious multi-species combinations. It is also, quite literally, how a forest organises itself.
A landscape built to sustain itself
This thinking guides Via Terra’s long term goal for the site: a landscape that becomes more self-sustaining over time, while contributing to food security for the local community and restoring abundant habitats for wildlife through biodiversity preservation.
Your sponsorship supports the project as it builds the early ecological groundwork on which everything else will be built, and we are very honoured that you chose to be present from the very start.
Your contribution helps Via Terra continue assessing the land and designing plantings that work with the site’s own conditions, and it ensures three years of dedicated maintenance for the guild as a whole: watering, weeding, pruning, pest management, soil conditioning, mulching and dead tree replacement. This ensures your sponsorship builds a lasting legacy for life in all its forms, through the growth of a healthy forest.
Together, we shall create landscapes that inspire others to take action, thanks to caring souls like you who support this direct way of taking part in restoration: happening plot by plot, on real ground, within real communities, alongside real changemakers, like you.
Every tree chosen and maintained with care
Species are selected by ecologists for what genuinely belongs here: native and endemic trees suited to the soil, the climate and the surrounding habitat. Each site is then prepared, planted and watched over time.
Site preparation
Land is assessed and prepared by ecologists ahead of any planting.
Native species selection
Trees are chosen to match the soil, climate and local habitat.
Planting
Trees go into the ground with the people and partners behind them.
Ongoing care
Growth is monitored over time, so the forest actually establishes.

There is a place in this forest for everyone
Whether you are one person or a whole organisation, there is a way to contribute that fits your scale.
Individuals
Plant on a personal basis, for yourself or for someone you care about.
Companies and CSR teams
Annual sustainability packages aligned with your goals, with recognition and impact reporting.
Tourists and visitors
Add a restoration contribution to your stay, through partner hotels and tour operators.
Property developers
Integrate tree planting into new developments as part of greener building practice.
Airlines and aviation partners
Support local ecological restoration as part of sustainability commitments on routes to Mauritius.
Event organisers
Estimate and offset the footprint of weddings, conferences and gatherings through tree planting.
Vehicle owners and fleets
Make an annual contribution linked to carbon awareness for a vehicle or a fleet.
Living legacy
Mark a life moment with a tree planted in someone's name. See below.
A tree for a life, well marked
Mark a birth, honour someone who has passed, celebrate a wedding or an achievement. A tree planted in someone's name keeps growing long after the moment itself, a living way to remember or to celebrate.
A lasting impact, tracked openly
More tree cover and greener landscapes across Mauritius
A stronger private sector role in sustainability
Better environmental awareness among residents and visitors
Real, measurable carbon offset at a local level
A lasting platform for partnership across sectors
Plant a tree, for any moment that matters
Tell us a little about you and the moment you want to mark. Whether it is a celebration or a tribute, we will take care of the rest, together with Via Terra and The Green Village.
Thank you, your request has taken root
We have received your details and will be in touch shortly to confirm your tree.
